Those bags are adorable! I would love to just take a workshop. I haven't been able to carve out time for art recently but going to a workshop will make me.

I love those bags and the cute iron too!  I'm going to the beach for a week with my husband and brother and I'm already fretting over what supplies to pack.  If I had my druthers, I'd pack my supplies in the big suitcase and my clothes in the little one.  That way, I might reach for something and it might be there.  I want to sketch sunsets and seabirds and children playing in the sand.

I looking forward to the new issue of Studios since I do a lot of traveling!!!  This summer I will be

returning to QBL (Quilting by the Lake) in NY state to take two weeks of classes with Jane Dunnewold--Wow, am I excited!  I have been attending QBL for the past 5 years and really love the atmosphere and classes available.  However, since investing in several of your QA workshops, I am thinking of skipping a few years of QBL ($2000+) and keep on taking advantage of your enlightening and well-produced workshops ($20+) which I can enjoy and rewatch in my own home.   Ginny

This summer I plan on exploring the technique of marbling fabric.  Something I've wanted to try for quite a while but just haven't gotten to yet.

on 2 Jun 2009 6:05 AM

Whenever I travel, I load my pack with a bunch of sketchbooks. There is constant inspiration in new places and all I really need is a pen and a pad of good paper. I'll be in West Virginia sketching the deep, amazing vegetation and in Northern Michigan capturing the delicious lake views. When I get home, I fill them with color to bring my line sketches to life! That way I extend my vacation by reliving it in my drawings.

My husband bought me a backpack quite a few years ago. I keep a sketchbook, pens, pencils, colored pencils, erasers, small water color set and watercolor crayons in it. Whenever I need to get creative, I grab a water bottle, strap on the bag and go for a walk around the forest preserves by my house. Always something interesting to see. This year we are going to Florida - end of June! We are driving and stopping on our way. A whole new area of the world to discover!  I am also going to bite the bullet and try dyeing my own fabric. Also trying dye painting!

Love the bags! My summer plan is to rust fabric. I've been collecting rusty objects and am waiting for a hot and humid day to try it. I babysit my nephews (ages 6 1/2 and 8) on Wednesdays and we're going to have "Art Camp With Aunt Cindy" for a couple of hours every week.

The bags hold so much I could use it to go to the beach this summer. I have already began to put aside outdoors art pieces to finish. I have projects that need hand sewing , beading, and embelishing so I carry a bag with embroidery thread sissors , beads and embelishings . Tis way i keep my hands busy with projects over the summer and not be stuck in front of the sewing machine (i'll keep that for the rainy days). I also like to bring my scetch book with various pencils, charcoals, crayons  to record any scenic wonders or inspirations for future pojects.

Love the yellow satchel style bag. Really want to see how it opens up.

I'm on disability for degenerating discs and OA, and miss my hiking days.  I desperately need to get back outdoors, in some capacity, and get reinspired by Nature.  I'm sure that bag would carry my digital camera, field notebooks, and baggies to collect leaves or flower heads. Modeling clay to make molds.

Nature here I come.  [Oh! It'll be a dawdle, to be sure, but it's a mind body spirit thing.]

My husband and I just moved into our first house and I get a room all to myself, my craftiness and my books! We've only been married for a year and a half and for a year of it we've been living with his parents. My poor spinning wheel was in our closet and all my craft supplies were in boxes in the basement!! I'm in the process of unpacking and organizing all my glorious and greatly missed crafty items, and plan to have it all done ASAP. This summer I plan on reconnecting with my spinning wheel to spin up some angora fibers my grandma sent (I've never spun angora before!) and will be finishing some projects that were put on hold during our cloistered existence in the in-laws house! It's going to be an artsy summer!

These look really great! I will be travelling to Germany this summer to visit family and the places where I grew up. I will mostly use my camera and a sketchbook to record my impressions and will hopefully translate it into great art once I'm back, maybe a whole series of art quilts will emerge!

She brought her sewing machine, plus my oldest sister, as well as a huge assortment of fabric. I borrowed another machine. Due to several income setbacks, it looks like I'll be staying close to home this summer. That won't diminish the inspiration though - with flower gardens, a multitude of birds (including wild turkeys with their poults), deer, pesky chipmunks, and a despicable groundhog right in my own backyard! All of that makes my back patio a grand summer art studio perfect for painting, collage, fabric arts or whatever direction the muse leads me. Then a few steps further away, there's the local art museum, a peaceful reservoir, and fabulous bike trail. Not too shabby for an economical venue.

This summer I'm doing a big stretch.  I'm going to attend a couple of workshops on using acrylics.  No, it's not fiber related but, yes, it is art related.  My decision to do this was to get away from just fibers and investigate art through using acrylics.  So this summer I'm going to play Monet but use modern day acrylics instead of traditional oil paints.  I'm getting very excited.  I'm wondering just what kind of an artist I'll be and just what kind of art I can produce.  I can hardly wait to get going.

I also have an entry on my blog that talks about my traveling art project bin. My husband umpires college baseball and I travel with him. I can be ready to go in minutes because I keep my art bin full of my favorite supplies! No looking around for this or that. The draw back is that it's a plain ole see thru art bin container...The blue bag above looks like it would work great as a travel art bag...(hint, hint).

I LOVE those bags and that iron would come in handy!  I am actually going to be teaching a fabric dyeing work shop in just a few weeks!  I teach the basics and then I go a little farther and teach different tieing techniques and how to discharge fabric.  My MIL gave me some fabric paints that reacte to the sun for Christmas and with the weather warming up I should be able to do some experimenting soon.

I'm a development aid worker and in July I plan to go to Ghana to work for almost a month.  I can't pack much (one bag) but I like to bring a craft, which I always carry on so there is no chance to lose it.  One of these bags would be GREAT to bring (and the bright colors match African style)!  This time I want to pack small hand projects like applique quilt blocks and supplies for beading.  I buy strands of handmade (usually recycled glass, clay or brass) beads in Africa but I would have to bring from the States the correct materials to string the beads and findings.  I always pick up fabric in Africa  & one of these bags could hold my pins, needles, threads and templates -- and an easy project -- for the way over.  I would stuff the bag full with beads & fabric on my way back!

Whenever I travel I bring along fabric paints and a piece of hand-dyed fabric to do nature printing.  I look for leaves or other natural objects specific to the area that I'm visiting and are different from what I can find at home (Minnesota).  I use the fabric piece for a book or journal cover, as a page in a journal, in an art quilt, or in a tote bag or a garment.  Since I don't know what I will find, I work with the serendipity of the piece to drive the design of what I make when I get home.

I have been wishing that I had a good travel kit to carry with me so I can have supplies to work with at lunch time and on my work breaks to develop my pen and ink sketches and add color and stampings and inks etc., until I can one day leave the 9-5 behind and concentrate solely on my creative pursuits...one day soon I hope.

I am busy preparing for a week of "Lace Camp" on Manitoulin Island in Ontario Can.  Every year (this is our 16th) about 40 women from Canada, the US and Great Britain spend a week making bobbin lace.  There are many types of lace made as so many campers are of different ethnic backgrounds.  I like to make lace to encorporate into my fibre art pieces and to embellish smocked dresses that I make for my young daughter.  I will set off on a 9 hour journey with a car packed with lace pillows and books.

Any type of crafting is an "art", so I can definitely use any of these totes to cerry my "art" when I go to a friend's house to visit and get inspiration and support.

Ah-the creative summer of Deborah! (1) I will be painting some old chairs picked up at a yard sale and intend to be using several mediums- Paint-cloth and maybe a few strategically placed rhinestones (2) My new in-house studio consists of a former dressing room which I am turning into a third studio work area-  I shall be tearing it apart and re-organnizing to my hearts delight! Can't wait until my organizational juices kick in for that! (3) I was lucky to obtain a huge fabric selection (not that I needed more!) from a friends sister- I will be incorporating that into my existing fabric studio room- I have lot's of ideas and intend to work in my studio starting October 1 5 days a week- creating-creating-creating-For next summer I intend to take a couple of art project classes at the Art School in Chester Vermont-I have run out of time this year!

Great looking bags.   Any of them would love to come and stay at my home.

This summer, my DH and I are spending a week in a cabin on a small lake.  While he fishes I am going to experiment with adding fabric paint to a small wallhanging that is needing some extra punch.

I also will take a small sewing machine and work on the quilt blocks I have started sewing together for a quilt for our DSIL.

We bought a used two seater kayak so my granddaughter can ride with me. Weather permitting, we're going to float around with sketchbooks and digital cameras while grampa fishes and then go back to my house and work them into quilt blocks until we have enough to put them together into a wall quilt. Then I'm going to sit her on my lap and teach her how to quilt it.

I live in the beautiful county of Sonoma California which sponsors an Art Walk/Trail in the summer and in the fall.  These events open the artists studio to let you see the places they work and let them explain their creative process.  I love to go to artists studios even if they are working in a medium I do not do myself, it starts my creative juices flowing.  The artists are very eager to share their love of what they do. Many times I will buy a small piece of something they do and let it inspire me to create my own art quilt, glass or ceramic piece.  Of course being in a beautiful geographic area surrounded by nature helps too. I encourage you all to get out there and be inspired!

I have been shown a technique where youcolour the canvas with the paint then add stitch in a fairly haphazard way. I am hoping the coastline of Ireland may inspire me . The camp is very high energy as the campers spend their days learning about music and drama through rehearsals and classes. I plan projects that allow them to express themselves through art in a low key, relaxed environment. One would think with all of the cute storage containers that I buy my studio would be uncluttered...not going to happen.  Too busy working on sample quilts for a quilt store in Pennsylvania.  Having too good of a time creating to worry about clutter.  Just close my door and put the "Do Not Enter" sign up.

Wow great timing. I'm planning on some painting or at least picture taking and sketching on Manitoulin Island this summer. One of these bags would make it an artsy adventure for sure. Thanks for the chance!

Wonderful bags in beautiful colours! - I make somekind of art everyday, no matter if it's summer or winter: painting, cross stitches, kniting, crochet laces... Creating by hand is my whole life, if you know, what I mean! Have a beautiful summer!

Love the totes and iron! This summer I plan to play with tsukineko inks and markers. I want to be able to include them in my style of art. I'd also like to start an art blog. I plan to spend some time in the mountains of Virginia this summer gathering inspiration for future projects.

Now that DH is retired, we spend a great deal of time on the road: traveling to see children and grandchildren, seeing the sights along the "blue roads" that we never had time for before.  We have a motorhome and the bags like you have here could make the clever packing of materials so much easier.  Space is always at a premium.  I have nearly completed a major piece and am looking forward now to trying something totally new and different.  I am almost giddy with the excitement of taking off on a new path.

I enjoy a design group that likes to take field trips to nearby cities whenever possible in order to visit quilt shops, seminars and exhibits.  We have another trip planned for next week!

The something "arty" that I'm doing this summer is a mission trip to Kenya to teach a group of women to design story quilts.  A different group with aptitude will learn to run a business and so the project will have a self-help outcome.
