Fiber & Mixed-media Trends from Cloth Paper Scissors Issue 73
Dear John,

Spring has arrived in our online store! We have new wool felt eggs, a Spring Mix of wool felt beads and shapes, tips on how to embellish these yummy bits, plus a beautiful new book on book arts, and other Cloth Paper Scissors Embellishments news.
Fun with Wool Felt Beadspaper & Eggs!

When the Artgirlz hatched a plan for bringing back hand needle felting, we said, "We're in!" Then we quickly stocked up on dozens of their Wool Felt Eggs, Spring Mix of balls and shapes, and bright wool balls in different sizes and colors, plus packs of needles. Use them to make jewelry and cards, to embellish clothing, dolls, and other fiber art, or just decorate for display.

Embellishment ideas from the Artgirlz
book

By Tracy Stilwell

Embellishing wool felt beads is very easy, satisfying, and limitless!

Materials
  • Ribbons
  • Threads
  • Buttons
  • Beads
  • Sequins
  • Roving
  • Any other wonderful things in your stash!
Directions

1. Gather the little goodies mentioned above.
2. Grab a couple of needles and threads that would be appropriate for beads, embroidery or needle felting.
3. Thread your need and start stitching! You will find it very easy to sew onto the wool beads, going with one style or mixing and matching your methods.

Some tips:

  • To hide the knot, take your first stitch inside the hole of the bead.
  • Start your stitches where your needle comes out to the surface.
  • To secure sequins, sew through sequin, add small bead to thread and go back down through the same sequin hole.

'True Colors' Revealed

Readers submitted 219 quilts to our "True Colors" paper quilt challenge, and they were all wonderful. The talent among our readers just keeps growing, making it more difficult to choose "winners" each time.

But, at the end of the day, we do have to choose: you can see the names of the winning artists on our Editor's Blog and see the quilts in person at the Make it University! ™ with Cloth Paper Scissors® exhibit in Chicago April 11-13.
