new film star
FUSIBLE ANGELINA FILM
If you’ve got a passion for Angelina fibers (and who doesn’t?) you’ll want to try Fusible Angelina Film by Textiva®, new in our online store. This sheer film—the raw material from which Angelina fibers are made—can be sewn, stamped, or heat-pressed, bringing shine and luminosity to your fiber and collage art. Crinkle it to bring out the iridescent quality in the 19 colors. The more layers you use, the stronger it becomes.
Here’s an easy project to make from Fusible Film – an Ethereal Butterfly. Note: All irons are different. You may need to experiment with yours and Fusible Film to get the best results.
- Ink a large butterfly stamp with black ink.
- Set stamp on a firm surface (such as a worktable or ironing board) with the inked side up.
- Place three layers of Butterfly Blue Flash (or your color of choice) film on top of the inked surface. Gently cover with a piece of baking parchment or Teflon® pressing sheet. Try not to move the film or your image will be blurry
- With your iron heated to the silk setting (approx. 225 degrees), gently press and iron over the surface of the sandwich for about 3 seconds. Make sure you apply heat to the entire stamp surface, but do not “fry” the film.
- Remove the parchment or Teflon and gently peel the film off the stamp. Let cool.
- With a sharp scissors, trim around the edges of the stamped image.
- Stitch the butterfly to fabric (such as a fiber sandwich for an ATC) and embellish, if desired. Stitch around the outline of the wings to lay flat or down the middle of the “body” and fold the wings up for a three-dimensional effect.

10 HOT TIPS FOR USING THE CREATIVE TEXTILE TOOL
The Creative Textile Tool by Walnut Hollow is our latest favorite gadget. It can press, fuse, emboss, etch, transfer, cut—and it fits inside a large handbag or tote. What’s not to like? Here are 10 ways to use this versatile tool in your art:
1. Print a design. Use one of the decorative tips (such as the nine-patch tip that comes with the tool or tips with borders, words, and letters purchased separately) to emboss a pattern or message on top of the fabric.
2. Emboss with a stamp. Turn the velvet right-side-down on a deeply etched rubber stamp, then run the hot trowel point over the back of the velvet, pressing it into the stamp to emboss.
3. Fuse small bits of fabric without disturbing larger areas.
4. Use the trowel tool to press hard-to-reach areas—especially useful for quilt corners and fabric doll parts.
