Issue #14
In this issue of Quilting Arts Magazine® Embellishments you'll find tips for machine needle felting, an array of heart-shaped stamps, and Calendar news.
Machine Needle Felting Tips
Machine needle felting is gaining popularity in the fiber arts world, and in the latest issue of Quilting Arts Magazine®, on sale February 6, Margo Duke shows readers the creative joys of this hot new trend and offers the following tips:
- Practice with different fibers to see what effects they will produce (e.g. silks will ruche while the holes punched in some wools will look like suede).
- Create a rich texture by combining a variety of fibers (such as cotton, silk organza, wool yarn, and velvet) on the same piece.
- Keep the fabric moving as you needle felt to avoid creating holes in your piece.
- Highlight areas of your artwork by needle felting several yarns or ribbons lined up together.
- If you're considering buying a machine or attachment, practice with both to see which works best for you.
Oliver Twists Silk Sensations Strata Packs include an assortment of sumptuous silk textures in luscious colors, perfect for needle (or nuno) felting, couching, mixed media, and textile artistry.
