Fiber artists Jane Dávila and Elin Waterston share a friendship, a passion for textiles, and a clean design sensibility that makes the collaboration on this workbook a match made in heaven. Readers who are new at art quilts and those who have tried a few but wish to improve their design and detail skills will find this book especially useful

Easy Foam Stamps

Printing your own designs on fabric is a snap with these easy-to-make foam stamps. Project and artwork by Elin Waterston.

MATERIALS:

  • 2 craft foam door hangers
  • Sharp scissors or utility knife
  • Non-water-soluble glue
  • Printing plate
  • Brayer, small foam brush
  • Fabric or acrylic paint (or Adirondack Dabbers)
  • Pre-washed fabric

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut abstract or representational shapes out of one foam door hanger with scissors or utility knife.
  2. Cut “hook” portion off second hanger.
  3. Glue the shapes onto the remaining door hanger using non-water- soluble glue.
  4. Let glue dry thoroughly.
  5. Apply fabric paint to stamp with brayer or foam brush, dip stamp into paint spread on a printing plate, or use Adirondack paint dabbers.
  6. Stamp designs onto pre-washed fabric.
  7. Incorporate fabric into your design.

Paint and Brush in One

You can make stamped designs even easier with Adirondack paint dabbers. Apply acrylic paint to stamps or directly onto fabric or paper, or open the bottle and use the paint with a brush. Twelve colors to choose from.
