Emboss with Misty-fuse
Art and technique by Joanna van Ritbergen
Materials:
- Embossing powder
- Misty-fuse (in white or black)
- Parchment paper or TeflonŽ pressing sheet
- Iron with steam
- Heat gun
- Fabric (pre-ironed)
- Plastic spoon
Note: Experiment with different kinds of embossing powders, such as Distress powders, for a more muted, aged appearance.
Directions:
- Lay the fabric on top of the parchment paper. Place Misty-fuse on top of the fabric.
- Hold the iron above the Misty-fuse/fabric combination and steam. Do not place the iron directly onto the Misty-fuse.
- Sprinkle embossing powder over the Misty-fuse.
- Spread the embossing powder as evenly as possible using a plastic spoon.
- Place iron above (not on) the Misty-fuse and steam.
- Gently, pick up the fabric and from underneath lightly tap around the fabric. Make sure you are doing this over your parchment paper as loose powder may spill over. You will begin to see a web-like consistency. If you do not and the powder is not setting the way you like, apply a little more steam from the iron.
- At this point, you can still apply more embossing powder if your desired area is not covered. The trick to holding the embossing powder in place is the steam from the iron.
- Use a heat gun to apply direct heat to the fabric and to emboss your shape.
