Does Your Fusible Get a Tan?misty fuse
Tips and tricks for better fusing

In accelerated aging studies, exposure to UV rays have been shown to cause fusibles to tan (darken).

Especially on light colors, sheers, or other lightweight fabrics, tanning may read as a color shift or dark spots.

Mistyfuse Ultraviolet is specially formulated with an effective retardant to protect against the tanning effect of UV rays - without sacrificing any of the inherent Mistyfuse qualities you expect. Mistyfuse Ultraviolet is white and fuses clear.

Paper-less Mistyfuse™ works for all weights of fabric from velvets and cottons to delicate tulles and organzas. It handles well, is incredibly sheer, doesn't add bulk to your fused piece, and bonds firmly once cooled. And since there is no added adhesive, it will never gum up your scissors or quilting needles. Each package comes with simple instructions for easy fusing with no waste.

Regardless of what kind of fusible you use, the following tips can be helpful:

Read the directions. Different fusibles are applied in different ways. Be sure to read the directions to make sure you're using the right fusible for the right situation, and that you have the right tools.

Test before you fuse. Irons, fabrics, and fusibles vary. Do a test swatch first to make sure the fusible you choose it right for your fabric, and your iron performs the way that is best for the fusible you use (steam/no steam, etc.).

Use a protective layer. A non-stick press sheet, baking parchment, or the backing of paper-backed fusible are all good choices for protecting your iron and your ironing board surface from glue.

Be patient. Apply heat and pressure evenly and allow the fusible and fabric time to cool to ensure proper adhesion.

Keep notes! That way, you won't have to guess what works best the next time you use that fabric or that fusible.

We've Added New Golden Products

GoldenŽ Fluid Acrylics

In addition to Quinacridone Burnt Orange and Nickel Azo Yellow, we now have Cobalt Blue, Manganese Blue Hue, Green Gold, and Hansa Yellow Light GoldenŽ fluid acrylics.

These paints are preferred by mixed-media fiber artists like Lesley Riley, because of their luscious colors that are deeply pigmented when full strength so they can be thinned with water to dye fabric and flow like watercolors on paper.

GoldenŽ Soft Gel Medium, Matte
This medium makes an excellent adhesive and transfer medium for paper and fabric. Soft gel is not as thick and tacky as matte gel medium and spreads easily and smoothly. It is perfect for fabric because it does not make it feel so thick and hard when dry.
